NOVEMBER CHALLENGE 🖤
Bonjour my little demon, ready to collect gem #01?
Whether you just joined or have been here from the beginning, thank you so much for reading.
TODAY’S GEM
Here’s a lesson I learned the hard way: too many artists underestimate the power of the eraser.
Especially for portraits. The human face is delicate and complex, which makes the eraser an essential tool.
If you start exploring, you’ll find dozens of types: kneaded, pencil erasers, dust-free, even mechanical ones! But in the end, they all serve one purpose: to remove varying amounts of graphite from the paper.
It sounds simple, right?
But it opens up infinite possibilities! So it’s time you become as obsessed with erasers as I am. Use them to create textures, carve out shapes in dark areas, define forms with highlights, clean lines, smooth or sharpen edges, and establish a clear hierarchy in your drawings...
In short, the eraser is your best ally for portraits!
Before to go, let me show you a real example: Look here, I used an eraser not only to sculpt the hair against a darker background, but also on the eyelashes, the face, the flowers and the jewels…

Voilà, that’s all for me.
What portrait topic would you like me to cover next?
Bisous,
Léa
