It’s a simple shift, but it changes everything when it comes to graphite portraits. Anchoring the darkest shadows from the beginning sets the contrast, making it easier to layer mid-tones and highlights of the face. It’s like having a roadmap—your shading will stay balanced, and the composition of your portrait will instantly have depth.
