NOVEMBER CHALLENGE 🖤
Bonjour my little demon, ready to collect gem #10?
Whether you just joined or have been here from the beginning, thank you so much for reading.
TODAY’S GEM
There was a time when my mindset was terrible.
I obsessed over perfection, constantly comparing my portraits to others.
It’s not stylized enough, not organic enough, not dynamic enough, the expression is boring, the hair looks flat…
It was a vicious cycle, and it led straight to Art Block.
Social media didn’t help either—seeing others excel only made things worse. But surprisingly, social media was also what pulled me out of that mindset.
One day, I scrolled all the way down to the beginning of a favorite artist's profile. And I had a revelation: they weren't that great at the start! It took them ten years to get to the level I admired. I thought:
Who am I to expect to achieve overnight what my favorite artist took years to build?
Moral of the story: behind the drawings you love are hours of work—but more importantly, years of learning.
So, be humble but kind to yourself Believe in your potential Stay disciplined Keep moving forward Keep creating (even if it’s not perfect r it’s not what you want)
Because what separates good artists from the rest is the marathon they commit to running..
What portrait topic would you like me to cover next?
Bisous,
Léa
