NOVEMBER CHALLENGE 🖤
Bonjour my little demon, ready to collect gem #16?
Whether you just joined or have been here from the beginning, thank you so much for reading.
TODAY’S GEM
Tilting and turning the head is probably one of the trickiest challenges in portrait drawing. The perspective shifts, angles get complicated, and it’s easy to lose track of proportions.
Here’s a simple trick I teach my students to make drawing heads in any position easier: think of it as a simple cylinder.
By reducing the complexity of the head to a basic 3D shape, like a cylinder, you can easily visualize tilts, turns, and angles without getting overwhelmed. It’s a way to grasp the overall structure before diving into details.
Start with a light sketch of a cylinder to establish the position. Once that’s in place, you’ll find it much easier to map out the features accurately, no matter the angle.
This little trick is my go-to method for drawing challenging poses—give it a try and see the difference!

What portrait topic would you like me to cover next?
Bisous,
Léa
